2021 – abstracts
I am working for a solo show in Feb/March 2022 in Loods 6, where I will show the big size works (2 x 2 m) I am making at the moment. Textile elements always played a role in my paintings. but in the newer works textile is playing ‘the main role’. Textile, textile techniques, mainly sewing is refering to my youth. Sewing was a female connection in the family in the late fifties and beginning of the sixties. Grandmother, mother and sisters, nieces they were all involved in this. And I, as a six year old girl, was also sewing at the machine!
Later when our family moved to a new place in the outskirts of Rotterdam it became a more solistic job in wich my mother became very professional. But the pins were all over the place. I herited the leftovers of my mothers praxis. In a way it is a tribute to her. But also since textile is liberated a bit from the link to the limited role assigned to women, I feel more free to use it openly and show my personal source.
Parts of the works are made with a longarm machine, a 3m large sewing machine. Some details as a preview.|
more info will follow
I want the exhibition in February to be a big surprize, so I am only showing details from this new series.
