GRW: Het systeem van verbeelding
The system of imagination
GRW is a (personal) system that I developed in the years 1989-1992. It is intended to capture the meanings of colour, form and matter. Color, form, material: they all have a meaning that is fixed, like metal is cold, wood is warm, textile is fragile and so on…. Ofcourse all visual aspects have an opposite side, it was my goal to transcent these meanings by combining them in the system structure.
By coding these visual elements I was able to combine many differences at the time. Not yet in 1 painting. It always took several works next to each other to stay upright.
The underlying structure still plays a rol in the concept about my work.
I started this GRW system with three books, one white, one red and one green book. In each book I searched for images and thoughts about what the specific colour is symbolizing. In the slide here an impression.
GRW installation
During this period (1989-1992) I also built an environment with old children dresses. I projected photo’s on the dresses, put objects in front and made photo’s again. A few photos (more to come). Another project was to hang the paintings outside, f.e I hang them on the new noise barrier along the highway.
